Wedding Photography Course - Day 2

Day 2 of our wedding photography course at the wonderful SeahamHall Hotel Co Durham was all about close-ups, using flash and also using flash with reflectors. I wanted to give the students as much practical work as possible so we also looked at using reflectors to bounce natural light indoors.
The morning started off taking detail shots which is always a popular album shot of any wedding. Be it bride’s shoes, flowers or the rings, all these shots add to the story and the drama of the day. Students experimented using natural light and flash but we also showed how a simple mag light can give the desired effect.
It was then onto the drawing room at Seaham Hall Co Durham which has beautiful furniture and large bay windows with light streaming through. It was an excellent location to show our students that by using the natural light from the window and a simple reflector flash is not needed. See the picture below and there is a shot of Phil Nunez holding the reflector for our bride.
It was the turn of flash next and direction on how and when to utilize your Speedlight. I say Speedlight as I wouldn’t recommend any budding wedding photographer to use on camera flash. On camera flash is too direct and will result in unwanted shadows and redeye. The challenge for all our students was to take shots that looked natural and more importantly looked as if flash hadn’t been used.
The day was finished off with a practical exercise to allow our students one by one to take control of the situation and direct our two models. We wanted them to concentrate on the light, exposure and most importantly composition without any input from myself and Phil. All did superbly with some stunning shots and can’t wait to receive their CD’s with their images on for myself and Phil to give feedback on. A superb two days and big thank you to Seaham Hall for a superb location, Two Touch Promotions for the brilliant and professional models and House of Mooshki for a stunning wedding dress. Also thankyou to our make-up artist  Amy Parker who did a wonderful job with both models. Please look at some of my images from the day below and if you would like to take shots like these then why don’t you book on our next course in October; hope to see you there!
